Percy Hacks Pop-Culture
Andy Watt, one of Britain’s best-known satirical artists, has created a series of graphic novel-style scenes poking fun at popular culture through a quintessentially British sense of humour.
Commissioned by male grooming brand Percy Nobleman - which produces a range of beard-care products – each piece places a "traditional" British gent into a famous scene or story, giving an alternative and funny perspective.
Andy is one of the Country’s most prolific comic artists, having been producing bold and eye-catching work for the national press for the past two decades.
The series features some of the most popular news stories from throughout 2015, cleverly satirised in a way that somehow makes them seem like relatively normal everyday occurrences.
James Cordon and Stevie Wonder’s brilliant carpool Karaoke clip clocked up over 7.5million views on YouTube:
While Jeremy Clarkson’s acrimonious sacking from the BBC sparked a petition to save Jeremy’s job and prompted a reworking of the World’s most popular car show.
The FA came under the spotlight following their handling of former Chelsea FC doctor Eva Carneiro’s pitch-side fracas with Jose Mourinho, prompting widespread debate about the treatment of women in Football.
Released back in February, the eagerly anticipated big-screen adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey split the nation’s opinion and the departure of Zayn Malik from the most One Direction, left millions of fans around the UK heartbroken.
The British style of humour is often described as being the most dry and wickedly witty in the world and each story has been skilfully re-imagined by Andy, exploring an alternative and steadfastly British take on stories that have become familiar and ingrained in popular culture.
Percy Nobleman is one of the UK's leading male grooming brands, based around the exploits of Percy, a quintessentially British but thoroughly modern gentleman and his quest to achieve the perfect look. It’s officially that time of year - it’s dark when you wake for work in the morning and darkening whilst you’re on your commute home. It’s also that time of year when even more people than usual are sporting facial hair of some sort in a desperate bid to stave off the encroaching chill of winter.
How principled should the modern man be, you ask?
